Tot die conclusie komen een aantal Noorse economen in een paper in Food Economics. En dit keer niet gebaseerd op het simpele feit dat boeren ook in de meest rurale gebieden in de minderheid zijn, maar op basis van analyse van financiele data. Ze bekeken in welke mate financiele resultaten de migratie van boeren en part-time boeren beinvloeden.
"Everything else being equal, the latter group [farmers with life-style objectives] is more likely to stay on the farm. This could imply that , if preventing migration from rural in urban areas is a policy objective, production support schemes will be effective fo some groups, but will be less effective for the group with life style objectives. If this group is to be encouraged to stay in the countryside, policies directed at improving the general living conditions in the local community are likely to be more effective than specific support schemes related to agricultural production"
Of wel: besteed je overheidsgeld niet (alleen) aan landbouwbeleid maar aan goede scholen en high speed internet in rurale gebieden.
