Zweden

Uit het abstract: The study is particularly focused on applied agricultural research, which is of great significance for the future competiveness and production ability of agriculture. The study shows that there is a relationship between the importance of a country’s agricultural sector and the resources allocated to its agricultural R&D system. Countries with a strong agricultural sector appear to invest more in applied agricultural research than countries with an agricultural sector of less importance. The mapping shows that research institutes in general are more severely hit by decreasing public R&D funding than universities. In addition, Sweden clearly differs from the studied countries in some aspects. Suggestions and recommendations are given in order to strengthen the Swedish agricultural R&D system, including an increased SLF secretariat. Moreover, SLF should to a greater extent take part in different types of research collaborations.
