KPMG stelt "Co-operatives work best when their members are locked in and the co-operative is viewed as an extension of own business. The member needs to understand the co-operative's strategy and align their strategy to that of the co-operative in order to create maximum value from the value chain. If a co-operative is not able to lock in the supply it requires to operate its business, questions should be asked as to whether it makes sense to the business to continue as a co-operative. In particular, given the constraints of the model such as restrictions on their ability to raise equity to invest in growth; challenges in retaining earnings in the business and difficulties getting a board with the right skills to lead the business in international markets."
